What Should I Do and Not Do During SureSmile Treatment?

Woman thinks something over

SureSmile has allowed many patients to straighten their teeth without the conspicuous metal parts, dietary restrictions, and other inconveniences that come with traditional braces. While many people report that SureSmile is an easier orthodontic solution, it still requires no small amount of effort on the part of the patient to stay on track and achieve stellar results. Here are a few do’s and don’ts to keep in mind when undergoing SureSmile treatment.

What Are Some SureSmile Do’s?

There are a few good habits that can help you achieve the best possible result from SureSmile. A few of these include:

  • Clean your aligners daily. Remember to rinse your aligners after you remove them and before you put them in. At least once a day, use a soft toothbrush and toothpaste to gently clean your aligners and eliminate food debris. This will protect your teeth from infection and prevent bad breath.
  • Give your aligners a daily soaking. Give your aligners a bath in an approved denture cleaner once a day. After soaking, thoroughly rinse and brush them to remove food debris, lingering plaque, and residual denture cleaner.
  • Clean your teeth before putting your trays back in. SureSmile clear aligners can shelter plaque and food debris from your mouth’s natural cleaning process. Be sure to thoroughly brush and floss before putting your aligners in.

What Are Some SureSmile Don’ts?

Certain bad habits can delay your SureSmile treatment or even damage your teeth. A few practices to avoid include:

  • Don’t use harsh cleaning agents. Many common cleaning agents like bleach can damage your aligners. Stick to approved cleaning products and always lukewarm water when cleaning them. Hot or cold water can warp them.
  • Don’t eat or drink when wearing your aligners. SureSmile aligners cannot withstand the force of chewing and can trap sugary residues left over from beverages against your teeth. Always remove them when eating or drinking anything but water at room temperature.
  • Don’t leave your aligners unprotected. It can be a little too easy to absent-mindedly throw your aligners away after you take them out for lunch. Carry a special container in your pocket to keep them safe when you need to remove them.

SureSmile has allowed many people to have more ideal smiles. By following these best practices while wearing your aligners, you can set yourself up to achieve the best possible result from treatment.
