You may be excited about starting your SureSmile treatment toward a straighter grin you love. With clear aligners, you enjoy a more comfortable service while also being able to stick to your regular diet. However, when it’s time to eat, you might struggle taking out your trays initially. It may take some getting used to, but here are some tips to make removing them a bit easier.

1.)  Drink Lukewarm Water

If you have enjoyed cold water right before trying to take out your SureSmile, then this may be part of the reason for the difficulty. The coolness makes them less flexible, so drink lukewarm water or wait for your mouth to naturally heat up. Once you do, then try it again, and hopefully you have some success.

2.)  Start From Your Back Teeth

Usually, it’s harder to remove your aligners from your front teeth, so start out toward the back. After you wash your hands, use your fingertips to loosen the tray on one side, then move over to the other. By doing it from your molars first, you might have some luck! Repeat the steps, and you might be all good.

3.)  Try Using a Towel or Glove

SureSmile can be slippery when it’s wet, so you can try using a towel. Wrap your finger around it can absorb some moisture to give you more traction. A glove can give you some friction as well, so you’ll be able to get a better grip on your clear aligners.

4.)  Use an Aligner Hook

While you might have success with the steps above, you may still have trouble doing it comfortably. You can consider getting an aligner hook. These are a plastic hook with a ring around it, so you put your finger in it and position the tip at the back of your trays. Pull away from your teeth on one side, then the other, and you might be golden. Be sure not to do it too hard, as you may accidentally hurt yourself.

Try out any of these tips above, and hopefully you find success. When you find one that you can do easily and comfortably, stick with it throughout your treatment so you don’t fret about removing your SureSmile anymore. That way, you feel confident taking them out while you get ready to dig into your favorite foods.
